Diagnostic Imaging

Exam findings often need to be supported with diagnostic imaging to understand the whole picture of what is going on inside the horse. We use imaging for everything from gathering baseline information to deciding on the best treatment approach. The Athletic Horse has an arsenal of diagnostic equipment to obtain clear, high-quality images in the field.

  • Digital Radiology- Through the use of X-Rays, we can take an internal look at the bony structures of the horse. Radiograph images are able to be read and interpreted at the time of the exam. This technology is a vital part of any sports medicine practice for accurate diagnosis, tailored performance management, and enhancing your farrier’s hoof care program.

  • Ultrasound - Ultrasound imaging can play a vital role in diagnosing and monitoring both soft tissue and synovial structures. Dr. Young can identify and measure pathological regions to help develop the best treatment regimen. Ultrasound examination is also vital for viewing some muscle injuries, locating certain abscesses, or even diagnosing pleuritis.
