Over 20 years of experience with some of the nation’s top equine athletes and backyard adventurers.

Dr. Young has over 20 years of experience to draw on and has been in equine practice since 1998. A performance evaluation allows Dr. Young to get his hands on your horse and observe their way of going. Dr. Young will palpate structures of locomotion, flex joints, and manipulate soft tissue to diagnose lameness or identify any sources of potential pain or discomfort your horse is exhibiting. Clinical examination can be complemented with imaging to help diagnose an exhibited gait discrepancy, sensitivity to palpation, or response to flexion. After a full evaluation, Dr. Young will draw on his expertise to personalize a treatment plan for each individual horse based on their unique situation and goals.

What We Do

  • Performance Enhancement

The athletic equine can be trained to execute an impressive array of challenging maneuvers, many of which horses do not naturally perform in the wild. This strain on the body may require veterinary support or maintenance for the horse to enjoy a long and active career.

  • Regenerative Medicine and Orthrobiologics

The intricate anatomical structures of biomechanics in the horse allow these athletes, with training, to exhibit impressive displays of athletic ability. When these complex structures suffer injury, it is imperative to allow your horse the time to heal and recover.

  • Diagnostic Imaging

Exam findings often need to be supported with diagnostic imaging to understand the whole picture of what is going on inside the horse. We use imaging for everything from gathering baseline information to deciding on the best treatment approach.

  • Evaluations and Consultation Services

Purchasing a horse can be a big investment, especially when considering the long-term management and care the equine will require. The Athletic Horse offers comprehensive Vet-Checks or Pre-Purchase evaluations by Dr. Young.

  • Laboratory Services

Laboratory diagnostics offer vital information on the health of the horse. We recommend baseline annual blood work for all patients in an effort to stay ahead of disease and keep your horse in peak health.

  • Routine Care

Routine care is an important aspect of any athletic equine management program. In addition to your horse’s annual examination, we can support your horse with preventative medicine and routine care.
