Performance Enhancement

The athletic equine can be trained to execute an impressive array of challenging maneuvers, many of which horses do not naturally perform in the wild. This strain on the body may require veterinary support or maintenance for the horse to enjoy a long and active career. Performance enhancement treatments that we offer include:

  • Interarticular management of arthritis is a targeted therapy that delivers anti-inflammatory medications and normal joint fluid directly to where they are needed by the horse. Whether Dr. Young is addressing excessive joint inflammation or existing pathology, interarticular therapy has proven to be a powerful tool in managing pain and discomfort. It does not matter if we are managing world-class athletes with a heavy workload or retired horses having difficulty standing up after laying down and rolling; The Athletic Horse only utilizes products that are first in class.

  • Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy or ESWT delivers acoustic, high-energy waves which suppress pain and promote the body to regenerate and restore damaged tissue. Our concentrated shock wave therapy is a powerful, non-invasive procedure to help promote recovery in almost any part of the body from the spine to the distal limbs.

  • Chiropractic Care has proven to play a valuable supporting role in keeping athletes at the top of their game. From humans to horses, chiropractic evaluation and adjustments have been utilized to help address imbalances and boost performance in a variety of disciplines. Dr. Young has been a certified animal chiropractor for over a decade and enjoys being able to support his current patient’s athletic endeavors with chiropractic adjustments.

  • Systemic joint support, which essentially provides the body with the “building blocks” necessary for the health of joints, tendons, ligaments, bone, and muscle, can be utilized in virtually any management program. After examination, Dr. Young and the team can advise you on the most logical support for your horse’s unique case. We can point you toward intravenous or intramuscular injections administered at routine intervals as well as basic dietary joint support that could benefit your horse.
